Balkans Tour Day 3

No seriously. These people are giants! I looked it up on Wikipedia and apparently, they’re not THAT much taller than the rest of the world. But tell that to my eyes. The average person here walking down the street is a good 4-5 inches taller than me.

Anyway.

I began the day early. Well, early-ish. I left the hostel about 9:30 so I could try and catch the 10:30 bus from Dubrovnik to Tivat, Montenegro. Unfortunately for me, a giant group of old people booked the entire bus so I had to wait until the next bus left… which of course couldn’t have been an hour or two later, but instead left promptly at 3:30 PM. Awesome.

So I googled the location of the closest free wi-fi and set off for a pizza shop about 100 meters up the road. (I just used meters. That’s weird). I walked in at 10:30 and asked for the wi-fi password to which the chick replied that I had to order a pizza to get the password. So I asked if I could order a pizza but them not bring it until, I dunno, like… 2. She wasn’t happy about this and spent the next 4 hours checking with me every 15 minutes if I wanted my pizza to start yet. But at least I got the password.

I saw a girl who I had noticed waiting in line at the bus station as well and called her over to find out if she was in my same predicament, which she was, so we sat and chatted for the next 5 hours.

Literally. That’s all I did. Pizza. Talking. Internet. Looking back, I could have spent this time going sightseeing, or I dunno, getting another Hilton massage. But no. I sat and did nothing. Very grueling pace so far on this vacay.

Finally, it was time for our bus to leave, so we packed up our array of laptops, iWhatevers and chargers and loaded our bus to Montenegro.

IMG_0086The ride down was gorgeous and hugged the coast the entire time. We got some amazing views of Dubrovnik on the way out as well as some great pictures of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro as we drove alongside it and then crossed over it inside our bus on a ferry that looks like it was built to hold <5 cars, let alone a charter bus full of people.

Once in Tivat, I spent my entire evening walking. To make up for all the nothing I’d been doing all day. I walked from the bus station to my hostel (about 2 miles) then back to the bus station because I forgot to buy my tickets for the next day (something I quickly found out cannot be done, rather must be done on the bus itself) and then finally IMG_0105down into town (closer to my hostel). At this point, I learned very quickly that there is relatively nothing going on in Tivat. There were some people swimming in the Bay of Kotor. There were some people playing a version of volleyball mixed with soccer (which actually looked really fun) and that’s about it.

I walked around the port, down past a really old ship of some importance. I got some gelato. I sat on the dock and read some blogs on my phone. I went to a restaurant and ate some really good pizza and drank some really SHITE local beer. Like. Disgusting. And I’m generally not picky (PBR!).

IMG_0120So… given that I had an early morning the next day (an actual one, I needed to leave my hostel by 7) I decided at about 11 to head home to bed. You know. Sleep. The theme for my trip. But my hostel-bunk-mate-mo-fo’s had other plans and proceeded to be drunk and have sex on top of me.

Ever party has a pooper. That’s why they invited me.
